Royston entered a team of four and were looking good for winning the cup but lost out in the last round to come joint second with Linton. Cambridge won with 9 point to our 8.
There were seven teams involved from cambridgeshire with a cross table so that the strongest player in a team always played the strongest in another team. Each player played 3 games so the maximum points a team could win was 12.

Royston Chess Club won the Cambridgeshire League at the first time of asking in the 2009/10 season. Of the 10 matches Royston won eight and drew two, finishing on 18 points, six more than our closest challengers, Warboys. We started with a narrow and very fortunate win over Cambridge. A good win against St Neots was followed by tense draws against Warboys and Peterborough, and a narrow win against New England (the other team from Peterborough). The Royston team won 3:1 against New England to take the final played at Warboys. The match was hard fougth by both sides with dave conceeding the only loss on board 2 after we had won on remaining 3 boards.
