We have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1 so far, giving us 9/12 and second place in the league. There is a game at adjudication which may drop us a match point. So far the top boards have scored well with Ashley on 4/6 and Paul on 4/5.


Royston 2's season 2013-2014

We welcomed Andrew Chapman to the team this season and he made quite a difference to our results, especially early on. At Christmas we were top of the league with 8 points. In the second half of the season we only added another 3 more and ended up in third place, just two points above the relegation place. We struggled to maintain our early season form, especially as we started to run out of players who could play. We were the Hertfordshire chess equivalent of Newcastle in the Premier League ...

St Albans 3.5 - 1.5 Royston

Another long-distance trip in the space of a  week saw Royston lose by the same scoreline. We fielded our regular side and had some hopes for this match. In recent years we have had some close encounters with St Albans but this year they have Jeremy Fraser-Mitchell lurking on board 4. This gave them the advantage as he beat Brian. Steve had a solid draw with Black on board 2. There were some chances in Stephen's game on board 5 but in the end it fizzled out for a draw. I achieved nothing...
