The Final Showdown

After a walkover against St. Neots, who did not show to a rearranged match, we finished top of the South division. The final was against Warboys White Capes who won a coin toss which gave them a home match. At least it was the end of May and their notoriously cold bar venue at their Social Club would not be a factor!

I had six players to choose four from. In the end I thought it best to pack the team with as many grading points as possible whilst keeping under the 550 limit. The highest...

Royston cooled by Warboys

We travelled to the famously cold sports and social club at Warboys on the 28th of January. It was a blessing that the night was not too cold for January as the outside temperature directly affects the room temperature in the poorly heated playing venue. Warboys defaulted on board 3 meaning Simon Cage was left playing a friendly. This was our only full point of the evening! Chess and music in St. Neots

On November 10th the 550 team travelled to St. Neots to be greeted there with apologies from their captain who declared that next door was having band practise that evening! The words "next door" turned out to mean in the same room separated by a partition! We decided that anyone who had a problem with noise could stop the clock and move upstairs.
